Local Wellness Policy
Healthy Students • Healthy Schools • Healthy Community

What is a Local School Wellness Policy?

A Local School Wellness Policy is a district-wide commitment to creating a school environment that supports the health, well-being, and academic success of students. School districts participating in the National School Lunch Program or other federal Child Nutrition Programs are required to maintain a wellness policy that addresses nutrition, physical activity, nutrition education and promotion, and other school-based activities that support student wellness.

The policy is developed and reviewed with input from families, students, school staff, administrators, community members, and other interested partners. It helps ensure that wellness is a shared responsibility across our schools and community.

Our Wellness Policy

Wellness Advisory Committee
The purpose of the committee is to bring together diverse voices from across our schools and community to help support and strengthen student health and wellness throughout the district. The committee will provide input on the district’s Local Wellness Policy, review our progress toward established wellness goals, and help identify opportunities to create healthy school environments for all students.

Committee discussions may include topics such as:

  • School meals and nutrition
  • Nutrition education and promotion
  • Physical activity and physical education
  • Student and staff wellness
  • School-based activities, celebrations, and food practices
  • Community partnerships and resources
